Celebrating Valentine’s Day Between Friends

Sure, you can make a case that Valentine’s Day is the biggest Hallmark holiday of them all. We’re bombarded starting just after we turn the calendar to the New Year with pink and red messages of romantic love with a side of chocolate. But, as Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope showed us, Valentine’s Day can be a great day to celebrate our friends as well. What can you do this year to show your friends that you care on Valentine’s Day especially this year?

Use Social Media Greetings

If you want to acknowledge your extended friend group, the most efficient but also effective way is through social media. Platforms like Facebook offer ways to send greetings to multiple people either through the service itself or you can create your digital greeting with images or animations. Sharing a heartfelt Valentine’s Day message online can show your friends that you’re thinking of them.

Send a Handwritten Note

If you want something a little more personal, consider writing a note and sending it in the mail. This can be either a card or a letter but the important part is to personalize it. There’s something magical about receiving a letter in the mail. You can bring that joy to your friends, especially if they live far from you. If you’re feeling crafty, make your own Valentine’s Day cards.

Host a Galentine’s Day Zoom Party

Amy Poehler’s character on Parks and Recreation hosted an annual Galentine’s Day brunch. The idea was so wonderful that it’s moved from the TV screen to real-life as many women celebrate the day. In 2021, it may not be practical to have a face-to-face brunch, but it’s a good excuse to get together with your besties over Zoom with a mimosa in hand.

Drop off Baked Goods

If you’ve been spending your last year focusing your energy on baking, now may be the perfect time to channel your inner pastry chef. Make cookies or cupcakes with fun Valentine’s Day themes or colors and deliver them to friends in your neighborhood. You can wrap them in bags or boxes and drop them on porches for a fun surprise.

Host a Rom-Com Teleparty

Teleparty is a Chrome extension that allows you and your friends to watch the same streaming movie or TV show on your computer while syncing video and running a chat on the side. It works with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max. Pick a fun movie that fits the vibe you want to have for Valentine’s Day with friends and watch it together while you chat.

How will you celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends this year?
